Walk to Cure Diabetes Fundraiser

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) fosters a community for those affected by diabetes. It is an organization that brings not only hope to children living with diabetes and the people who love them, but also offers a chance to find a cure.

On Sunday, October 7, 2007, JDRF held the Walk to Cure Diabetes event at the west steps of the Capitol building, here in Sacramento. We participated in the event by forming a team of volunteer walkers called Stevie's Super Walkers. We had 26 walkers participating on our team, including Mr. Stringer, Stevie's 4th grade teacher, and several of her classmates!

Stevie was extremely excited about this event, because it encouraged her that there was so much support out there for a search for a cure for diabetes.

On August 26th we set a $2,500 fundraising goal and started asking for donations to support Stevie's Super Walkers for the Walk to Cure Diabetes. We composed a letter and sent it via email to friends and family. The letter described Stevie's condition and our goal to raise money for this worthy cause.

The response was more than we could have hoped for; the donation started coming in through the JDRF web site (JDRF - Stevie's Super Walkers) and through cash and check donations. By the day of the event we had raised over $5,000 for JDRF!! Thank you all!!!
